The Mexican American Sheriff's Organization was established in 1984. It was created with simple Goals and Objectives in mind.
To assist the Harris County Sheriff's Office in recruiting qualified Hispanics.
Assisting Probationary Employees through our counseling network of Senior Officers in instructing and providing advice to new-hires during their probationary period.
To motivate Members to participate in law enforcement courses beyond their basic training that will enable them to be qualified candidates for various technical and administrative positions.
To motivate and assist Members to promote up through the Rank & File of the department, by providing financial assistance through our promotional reimbursement program.
To sponsor a Community Service Program that provides a wide range of Law Enforcement Experience and Service to the Member Community
To recognize Hispanic Employees for their contributions to Law Enforcement through our Annual M.A.S.O. Deputy of the Year Awards Banquet.
Today's Organization is one of great potential; it represents a large majority of the Departments Member & Rank File and continues to address the sensitive issues of recruitment, promotions and placements.
Through our diplomacy, our organizational leaders have made significant strives with regards to those issues. The demeanor and professionalism exercised by our organization has gained us respect and admiration from many local and civic organizations as well as our department. We have taken our pride, our unity and our leadership to develop an organization worthy of the organizational theme, "The Advancement of Members through the Highest Standard of Professionalism." Together we have established ourselves as self-motivators, team players, communicators, professional members of the law enforcement community, effectively promoting M.A.S.O. Member involvement and assuring ourselves a distinctive place within our department.
